Duke in Los Angeles

The Duke-In LA program is an intensive, immersive academic and pre-professional semester focused on the arts, entertainment, media, and cultural studies. The program includes seminars taught by Duke faculty, classes at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, and an internship. Students enrolled in the program make connections in a range of creative fields through alumni-hosted career dinners, professional development events, awards shows and movie premieres, festival screenings and studio tours. The program brings distinguished speakers to the classroom from film, television, music, visual and performing arts, and gaming fields. As part of their coursework, students produce a documentary project and completes an academic paper designed to link theory with practice.

Duke in New York: Arts, Culture & Performance

Duke in New York Fall Arts, Culture, and Performance program immerses you in the one of the world’s great cities, where you develop not only your intellectual skills but also your professional network.

The program’s core course—“The Arts, Culture, and Performance of New York”—offers an overview of New York’s arts, culture, and performance ecosystem. Each week, students attend and study curated events in art, dance, film, music, film, and theater. Along the way, students meet and network with leading professionals drawn from New York’s arts, culture, and performance organizations.

Duke in London: Arts

This 4-week, 1-course program is for students who wish to become familiar with London’s cosmopolitan character and experience the work of London’s culturally diverse arts organizations, both mainstream and alternative. The course will cover key issues surrounding arts production and funding in the UK, as well as discuss the importance of cultural production to national identity in the global context. Students will engage with arts organizations and creators in preparation for a final project and network with Duke’s London-based creative community.

Duke in Venice

This program is designed to provide you with the opportunity to study aspects of Venetian history, culture, and religion which have been particularly important in the shaping of European civilization. The city of Venice, with its scenic canals and islands, will serve as your outdoor classroom for this 4-week summer program. Venice International University, which is located on the island of San Servolo in the spectacular Venetian lagoon, will be the site for both student residences and indoor classroom facilities.
