Joe Henry

For three decades, the prolific singer, songwriter, producer, and author Joe Henry has been reshaping a working definition of American music that is as rich as that of his any of his peers. In a unique three-day residency with Duke Performances, Henry will examine his artistry from several distinct angles.

Duke Performances commemorates the centenary of jazz icon and North Carolina native Thelonious Monk through “MONK@100,” a ten-day festival at Durham Fruit & Produce Company in downtown Durham from Tuesday, October 17 through Thursday, October 26, featuring performances by leading figures in jazz, jam sessions, and a public conversation.

Pharoahe Monch

Queens-based hip-hop artist Pharoahe Monch reunites with Brooklyn’s ten-piece PitchBlak Brass Band for a performance on Thursday, November 2 at Duke’s Reynolds Industries Theater. Leading up to the concert, Monch will participate in a three-day residency to include Duke class visits and a public conversation.

New York Polyphony

The day prior to their performance with pianist Jeremy Denk and violinist Stefan Jackiw, New York Polyphony will perform readings of new works by Duke’s graduate composition students in the Department of Music.
