Pharoahe Monch

October 31 – November 2, 2017

Pharoahe Monch’s residency is a part of Duke Performances’ Hip-Hop Initiative, made possible, in part, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Queens-based hip-hop artist Pharoahe Monch will reunite with Brooklyn’s ten-piece PitchBlak Brass Band on Thursday, November 2 at Duke’s Reynolds Industries Theater, following the success of their joint appearance at New York’s Ecstatic Music Festival in 2016. On campus, Monch will participate in visits to classes in the Departments of Music and African & African American Studies, where he will discuss his influences and the evolution of the themes — social, political, and personal — with which he has grappled in his music over the past 25 years.
