Visiting Artists

At Duke Arts, we believe that engagement with creators and performers builds space for learning and inquiry, facilitating collisions between ideas, forging connections and animating course material.

Duke Arts invites visiting artists from the Duke Arts Presents season to engage in and out of the classroom with Duke and Durham communities through master classes, workshops and public discussions.

In addition to our visiting artist engagement, Duke Arts offers 3-6 artist residencies annually, providing space and support for artists to develop new work or expand on existing projects while at Duke. Residencies can last from 3 days to several weeks and the format can vary widely depending on the scope and status of the work in process. All residencies feature several opportunities for artists to engage with Duke and Durham residents.

Duke Arts currently offers two artist residency programs. The Duke Arts Presents Residency is an expanded version of our visiting artist program. The Ruby Residency is an opportunity to create new work at the Rubenstein Arts Center.

2024-25 Residents have not yet been announced. Meet our past artists-in-residence below!
