Acclaimed spoken word poet, recording artist, filmmaker, and producer Amir Sulaiman joins Duke Performances for a virtual residency culminating in a free public conversation and film screening on March 5.
During his residency, Sulaiman will visit Southern High School in Durham, meeting with students in Okera Adofo’s African American Literature class for a close reading and discussion of poems. At Duke, Sulaiman will visit “Islamic Media” (Ellen McLarney) and “History of Hip-Hop” (9th Wonder & Joseph Winters). He will also join Duke Muslim Chaplin Joshua Salaam and students from the Duke Muslim Students Association for a conversation on his short film, Laying Flowers Setting Fires.
