Friday, November 13 & Saturday, November 21 – Monday, November 23, 2020
Durham native and GRAMMY-nominated jazz musician Chris Pattishall brings his diverse interests and innovative sound for a virtual Duke Performances residency, culminating in a November 21 performance film exploring the ‘Zodiac Suite’ compositions of former Duke professor and jazz luminary Mary Lou Williams.
During his yearlong residency, Pattishall will engage over multiple visits with students at Duke University and Jordan High School, which he attended while growing up in Durham. He will join Duke Music professor Anthony Kelly and Vice Provost for the Arts John Brown for a virtual discussion on his new album and multimedia project, ‘Zodiac,’ which reinterprets Williams’ 1945 masterwork. Pattishall’s performance film, which will be broadcast to Durham Public Schools as part of our virtual field trip series, combines his musical inspirations, performing work from classical to soul to folk.
