Delve into the diverse and varying traditions of Día de los Muertos with this panel conversation in which campus and community members explore their own memories and holiday traditions. Seated in front of the public Ofrenda, on display in Duke Chapel from October 10 through November 7, the panelists will discuss the work and holiday before engaging in an audience Q&A. This conversation will be accessible to both English and Spanish speakers.
Panelists include Pepe Caudillo, an artist with the Inter-Latin American Artist Collective (ILAAC); Amber Santibañez, a visual arts teacher at Durham School of the Arts and key organizer of the school’s Fall Arts Festival focused on Día de los Muertos; Fr. Juan José Hernandez director of the Duke Catholic Center; and Sandra Sotelo-Miller, a Lecturing Fellow in the Thompson Writing Program.

Honor the dead with a Day of the Dead altar piece, at Duke Chapel that pays homage to the rich cultural heritage and sacred traditions of Día de los Muertos. This event is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
This class introduces the traditions of Dia de Muertos. We will construct an ofrenda and learn how to produce paper cempaxochitl (marigolds) and papel picado (cut paper).
