A large crowd enjoying the 'Audio Under the Stars' event

Audio Under the Stars returns to Durham this fall in a new location – the great lawn at Durham Central Park! This special evening on Friday, October 14 is in addition to a previously-announced event in Pittsboro, NC this Friday, September 23.

Audio Under the Stars (AUTS) is a series of community listening events that brings people together to share audio stories reflecting the breadth and diversity of the human experience. AUTS events feature the kind of audio stories you might hear on public radio or narrative podcasts, but they bring the listening experience out of your earbuds and into a garden oasis where you can share the experience with those around you.

“Audio Under the Stars has always been about bringing people together to celebrate audio storytelling. We highlight the work of independent audio producers, share beloved pieces, honor talent, and build community with listeners and producers alike.”

AUTS is a collaboration between Elizabeth Friend, Jenny March, Marc Maximov, dedicated volunteers, and audio producers from all over who make this one-of-a-kind listening experience possible. It is supported by Duke Arts, the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, and the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

FALL 2022 PROGRAM:

Hope This Finds You Well: Stories of Taking Care in Tough Times

In the first live show since the pandemic began, Audio Under the Stars will explore stories of resilience and connection. You can expect unexpected companions, reflections on what it means to be well, and a chance to celebrate the odd and wonderful ways we found solace during the pandemic. Along the way, they’ll try to navigate the limbo of life online and consider what it might cost to keep a promise to an old friend.

Bring a comfortable chair or something to stretch out on and travel to surprising and enlightening places from the comfort of your own picnic blanket. AUTS will feature the same programming in Pittsboro and Durham, so plan to come to the location that works for you.
