Zak Weinberg

April 5 – 12, 2019

The Innovation Co-Lab presents its first artist residency with Laser Fabricator and Artist Zak Weinberg, 4/5-4/12 at the Co-Lab and Ruby Makerspace.

About

The Innovation Co-Lab is excited to announce its first-ever Artist Residency with multi-disciplinary sculptor and fabricator Zak Weinberg. Through the alter-ego Grebniew Kaz (name backwards), a relationship has been forged with a laser cutter, creating and exhibiting machine fabricated wood relief sculptures. Together, they draw inspiration from the visual dialect of architecture, cultural patterns, historic symbolism and motif; utilizing digital precision techniques to transmute future artifacts, envisioning a modern identity for global unification.

During his week-long residency at the Innovation Co-Lab, Zak will be leading workshops, teaching students about laser fabrication, sharing his process, and designing a new piece of art to be hung in the Co-Lab Studio. Members of the Duke Community can visit our Studios throughout the week to observe and work together with Zak on this project.

Each piece is an expression of universal language to celebrate the harmonious balance of difference.
