Kimberley Pierce Cartwright is a Durham, North Carolina-based fiber artist, quilter, and educator whose work explores family history, cultural memory, and the enduring tradition of handcraft. Growing up in rural Hallsboro, North Carolina, she developed an appreciation for sewing and making from her mother, whose creativity and resourcefulness continue to inspire her artistic practice today. Cartwright’s work has been featured in Quiltfolk Magazine, Quilting Arts Magazine, Durham Magazine, and The New York Times. She is a longtime member of the African American Quilt Circle of Durham and has exhibited her work at venues including the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, North Carolina Central University Art Museum, Cameron Art Museum, and Hayti Heritage Center. In addition to exhibiting nationally, she is an accomplished teaching artist who has presented workshops and lectures for organizations including the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and QuiltCon.
