Betsy Boulden Director of Development

Hailing from Indianapolis, Betsy brings a wealth of experience in the arts and culture sector. Prior to Duke, Betsy honed her skills at Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) at the University of North Carolina. During her tenure, Betsy played a pivotal role in securing critical funding for transformative initiatives including the co-commissioning of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize-winning opera by Rhiannon Giddens, Omar.

Prior to her role at CPA, Betsy served as a Major Gifts Officer at the Indianapolis Zoological Society, the largest privately funded zoo in the nation. She also held the position of Director of Development and Communications at the Indianapolis Ballet, leading the organization through a period of tremendous growth and increased philanthropic support.

Betsy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Eastern Michigan University. Her commitment to excellence is reflected in her certifications as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and in nonprofit management.

On a personal note, Betsy resides in Chapel Hill with her husband Riley, who is an Assistant Swim Coach at Duke, and their daughter Murphy.
