Frances Howorth Director of Marketing and Communications

Frances joined Duke Arts in 2022, leading the organization’s branding, marketing, and communications strategy. She spearheaded the Duke Arts rebrand and the development of the Duke Arts Presents identity in 2023. Frances brings nearly two decades of experience in arts marketing and audience development, with roles at American Ballet Theatre, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Town Hall, and Off-Broadway’s Irish Repertory Theatre, where she guided the company’s industry-leading digital transformation during the pandemic.

Originally from Oxford, Mississippi, Frances lived in New York City for 17 years before moving to Durham in 2020. She holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Barnard College and a master’s degree in Performing Arts Administration from New York University, and she teaches marketing in Winthrop University’s online M.A. in Arts Administration program.

Outside of work, Frances can be found exploring Duke and Durham’s vibrant arts scene, hosting friends for dinner, quilting, or chasing after her twin toddlers.
