Livestream: William Tyler

We’re proud to share that we’re partnering with Duke Arts and WXDU on a livestream series hosted by Duke Performances on Facebook Live and Instagram Live.

We’ll kick off the series with guitarist and composer William Tyler.

We’re encouraging our viewers to give to two important fundraising efforts organized by local arts organizations — the Durham Arts Council’s Arts Recovery Fund and NorthStar Church of the Arts’ Durham Artist Relief Fund — to directly support the Durham arts community.

###

William Tyler is a Los Angeles via Nashville-based guitarist and composer. He has released multiple albums of instrumental music occupying the liminal space between progressive folk and new age ambient. His stylistic approach has been compared to John Fahey, Bill Frisell, and Ry Cooder. His wide lens cinematic songs are meditations on the great wide-open landscape of North America and elsewhere. Besides being a long-time member of the Merge Records family, Tyler also was commissioned by Duke Performances in 2014 to present a piece entitled Corduroy Roads, a meditation on the American Civil War using a large amount of era photography via the Duke archive. Tyler has played festivals such as Big Ears, Le Guess Who, Ecstatic Music Festival, as well as extensive touring all around the world both solo and with small ensembles. Recently he composed the soundtrack for director Kelly Reichardt’s latest feature, First Cow.
