The Chamber Arts Society of Durham is pleased to open the season with this year’s installment of the September Prelude — an all-Mozart program, played on period instruments.
This special ensemble gathers master players from the finest teaching institutions, including Juilliard’s newly-established Historical Performance Program, to breathe new life into three of Mozart’s most arresting works for chamber ensembles, featuring flute, piano, and oboe. The “Gran Partita,” a work originally for 13 wind instruments, is offered here in an ingenious and sensitive transformation into a work for oboe and strings.
In a departure from past years’ practice, this year’s September Prelude event is included in all annual CAS subscriptions. As baroque-era instruments give voice to the master from Salzburg, we welcome you to the fullest program the CAS has ever offered.
