Close to 40 years after her debut album as a bandleader, Eliane Elias is just hitting her stride.
Elias has picked up three Grammy and Latin Grammy wins in the last six years, the most recent being Best Latin Jazz album for her stunning instrumental piano record with Chick Corea and Chucho Valdés, Mirror, Mirror.
2022’s Quietude has the Brazilian vocalist and pianist searching for her own version of paradise in an homage to the origins of bossa nova. The Wall Street Journal compared Quietude to the classic Getz/Gilberto, saying Elias “proves that the bossa nova is more about deep passion and music that’s lighter than air.”
From the stripped-down “Marina” to the pulsating “Tim-Tim Por Tim-Tim” — a 2013 recording with the late bossa nova giant and frequent collaborator Oscar Castro-Neves — Elias continues to show why she’s a legend in her own right.
