Ciompi Quartet
Concert No. 2

The Ciompi’s second concert of the season mixes two classical works of genius with a shimmering modern example. The season-long exploration of Brahms’ complete string quartets kicks off with his luminous third, one of the most perfectly realized pieces in the chamber repertoire. After a performance of American composer Joel Feigin’s Mosaic in Two Panels, which the Santa Barbara Independent called “absorbing, evocative, and utterly human,” the group welcomes back virtuoso clarinetist Allan Ware and other local instrumentalists to play the young Beethoven’s enduringly popular Septet.

Brahms: String Quartet No. 3 in B-flat Major, Op. 67
Joel Feigin: Mosaic in Two Panels for String Quartet
Beethoven: Septet in E-Flat Major, Op. 20 (with Allan Ware, clarinet; Saxton Rose, bassoon; Rachel Niketopoulos, french horn & Michael Ashton, bass)
