Presented by Duke Arts Presents

“…utterly mad and utterly brilliant.”

Seeing dance

Originally from Hong-Kong, Scotland-based choreographer Pik-Kei Wong explores gender, bodily-autonomy, and women’s desire, questioning eastern and western censorship of the female form in her striking and sometimes provocative work. She invites you to examine your own feelings and assumptions around gender, the body, desire and sex. Making its US Premiere at Duke, Bird-Watching received an outstanding award when it premiered in Hong Kong in 2018 and five stars at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023.

The Flavour of Butoh

The Flavour of Butoh

We will introduce Butoh materials and use these as the basis to fully develop our imagination. In the imaginative session, we use the body as a vessel to communicate and transmit information, allowing for autonomy and improvisation in each exercise.
