BalletX

Mon, Jan. 27 thru Sat, Feb. 1, 2020

Made possible, in part, by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.

Philadelphia-based contemporary ballet company BalletX aims to innovate, experiment with, and reformulate classical ballet for the 21st century. Founded in 2005 by Christine Cox and Matthew Neenan, BalletX prioritizes choreographic commissions by leading, forward-thinking artists like Trey McIntyre, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Lil Buck. Equally at home in site-specific pop-ups or within a traditional proscenium format, BalletX injects fresh energy into the classical form.

At Duke and in Durham for a weeklong residency, BalletX continues Duke Performances’ yearlong investigation of the state of ballet with public master classes, workshops, and panel conversations.
