The Mindful Path to Creative Insight
Partnership with Duke Arts Create & DuWell

About the Workshop

How can mindfulness enhance the creative process? This workshop will teach you how to explore your inner and outer experience and translate your discoveries into writing and/or visual art. You’ll be guided in short bursts of mindfulness practice, lasting about 10 minutes each, to help you tap into your experience in different ways and draw inspiration from the present moment. Bring whatever creative tools you might want (at the very least, a pencil and paper).
“Welcome to the country of the present moment.” —Thich That Hanh
“If something doesn’t creep into a drawing that you’re not prepared for, you might as well not have drawn it.” — Edward Gorey
“We do not learn anything recreating pretty, safe and known successes: To learn, we make messes. Flat out disastrous mistake-making and ugly drawings are also a goal.” —Tara Geer
“We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us. The sooner we get them out the better.” —Walt Stanchfield (better known as Walt Disney)
About the Instructors
Gigi and Kayla Falk are meditation teachers, workshop facilitators, and founders of Art of Human Being, an educational organization devoted to waking up the world through mindfulness, self-inquiry, and mental wellbeing. Their workshops blend meditation and ancient contemplative wisdom with cognitive science and behavior change research to help individuals and groups know themselves on deeper levels and live lives of purpose, passion, connection, and fulfillment. They currently offer online workshops, courses, and private meditation coaching.
