Taught by Hyewon Grigoni

About the Workshop

In this beginner friendly workshop, Hyewon Grigoni will take you through some basic drawing exercises and give away all her drawing secrets. Participants will learn the art of looking as the foundation to drawing out observations. We will make beautiful lines, possibly use one another as models, and have a great time while developing drawing skills. By the end of class you should have several sketches to take home and the inspiration to keep drawing!

No supplies or experience necessary.

About the Instructor

Hyewon Grigoni’s paintings will be on exhibit at Joe Van Gogh, 1104 Broad St., through December 2022. She worked as an artist and art teacher for many years before rediscovering her childhood love of shrinkydinks in 2017. She enjoys elevating low brow art forms into exquisite yet accessible pieces, and believes it’s never too late to nurture one’s creative needs or become an artist.

About DukeCreate

DukeCreate is a series of free, hands-on arts workshops designed to help Duke students, staff, and faculty develop a variety of creative skills. Workshops are open to all skill levels and backgrounds. Most take place in the Duke Arts Annex or the Rubenstein Arts Center and are typically held weeknights 6-8pm.

Workshops are free to all Duke students and staff, with priority given to students. Class size is limited. Students must sign up in advance. Registration for the following week’s DukeCreate workshops goes live on Friday mornings – sign up in advance to guarantee your spot!  Online enrollment for Duke staff opens on the day of the workshop. Staff can also show up 10 minutes prior to a workshop in case a slot becomes available. Walk-ins will be accommodated on a space-available basis.

DukeCreate is sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts (DukeArts) and University Center Activities and Events (UCAE).
