Life Skills: Learn how to make Kombucha

Partnership with Duke Campus Farm

Taught by Hyewon Gregoni

Registration Info

Our registration system has changed!
Going forward, registration for all Duke Arts Create workshops will now be processed through the Duke University Box Office. To streamline this transition, we have prepared a user guide that will walk you through the new registration process. Watch the video here.

About the Workshop

If you know any kombucha drinkers, you know they’re always trying to push their little probiotic agenda on you. Why? Some swear by the gut healing powers of this fermented tea. Some say it soothes their skin, their joints, or even boosts their immune system. So maybe it’s time you start. Or maybe you love kombucha already but are starting to wonder why you pay upwards of $6 a bottle for this habit. If only you knew how to make it at home!

Well now you can! Kombucha enthusiast Hyewon Grigoni will guide you through the process from start to finish so you can begin brewing your own tasty bev at home. All participants take home their own starter kombucha and learn to nurture a Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY), and flavor their very own self carbonating drink to enjoy. Join us on the beautiful grounds of the Duke Campus Farm. Your pocketbook and guts will thank you.

About the Instructor

Hyewon Grigoni has engaged in a variety of creative practices since childhood. Her work and writing have appeared in art shows, in print, and on air for public radio. She has taught art and art appreciation at the K-12 level, and her favorite discipline to teach for both kids and adults is Drawing 101 – aka the Art of Observing. Lately she focuses on daily sketching, portrait painting, and beginning carpentry.

Hyewon believes that art, like good writing or good religion, can comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Her work aims to achieve a little of both in equal measure.

She hopes attendees of DukeCreate workshops will enjoy a laid back, supportive environment to get away from their day and make stuff.
