About the Workshop

UPDATE: Due to rain, this workshop has been moved to March 30th.

Learn how to make natural inks from elements found in nature as well as items you can find in your own household. We will use simple processes for making inks, using ingredients like household spices, plants, and items found near Duke Farms and/ or Duke Forest.

There is a multitude of resources all around you that you can use to make natural inks and dyes. Making your own ink can bring you closer to the natural world as well as DIY culture when it comes to making your own art supplies from items you already have in your own background and household.

This is a community workshop open to all!

About the Instructor

Born in Lima, Peru in 1987, Brenda (Bren) Vienrich-Felling immigrated to the United States at a young age and grew up in North Carolina. She has over 14 years of experience working as a multimedia artist, with interests rooted in cultural identity and the metamorphosis that takes place over a period of time after immigrating from one place to another.

She has focused on illustration, documentary film photography, design and printmaking in the past. As a printmaker who enjoys hiking in the outdoors, natural ink making is an interest that has become a new hobby for her as it allows for an appreciation of natural and recycled elements, and can also be used as a form of documentation. Bren is currently pursuing an MFA within the Experimental and Documentary Arts program at Duke University.

About the Location

This workshop will meet at Duke Campus Farm.

Address: 4934 Friends School Rd, Durham, NC 27705.
