Dance Cardio for All Levels: Halloween Edition

About the Workshop

Join us for this dance cardio workout to ignite your creativity and boost your physical and mental health! In this workshop you’ll learn basic dance moves that are simple, uplifting, and fun to do with the fam. A special Halloween themed playlist strings together these moves in a guaranteed workout for your heart and soul.

Note:  This event is open to the entire Duke Community.

DISCLAIMER: This program involves physical exertion and movement through and across space, so before beginning ensure you have adequate clear, safe space free of obstacles to move and are wearing appropriate footwear for the floor surface. If more than one person will be participating, ensure adequate space to avoid contact with other participants. It is your responsibility to use personal judgment concerning the degree of your participation in the activities, and to determine that you are in proper physical condition to participate in such activities.

About the Instructor

Courtney Liu is a Duke alum (Trinity 2013, Psychology), professional dancer (Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake), and member of the inaugural cohort of Duke’s new M.F.A. in Dance. She has taught dance nationally and internationally for the past 13 years and is currently teaching open ballet classes on Zoom (#garageballet), private lessons, and a Duke summer session course called Body Image and Gender. Courtney teaches at the Chapel Hill School of Ballet, Durham School for Ballet and the Performing Arts, and Nina’s School of Dance. She also offers private dance/fitness/yoga lessons for all ages/levels, wedding/birthday/event choreography (Save the First Dance LLC), and date night dance lessons.

About DukeCreate

DukeCreate is a series of free, hands-on arts workshops designed to help Duke students, staff, and faculty develop a variety of creative skills. Workshops are open to all skill levels and backgrounds. Most take place in the Duke Arts Annex or the Rubenstein Arts Center and are typically held weeknights 6-8pm.

Workshops are free to all Duke students and staff, with priority given to students. Class size is limited. Students must sign up in advance. Registration for the following week’s DukeCreate workshops goes live on Friday mornings – sign up in advance to guarantee your spot!  Online enrollment for Duke staff opens on the day of the workshop. Staff can also show up 10 minutes prior to a workshop in case a slot becomes available. Walk-ins will be accommodated on a space-available basis.
