About the Workshop
A zine is a handmade magazine or mini-comic about anything you can imagine. In this workshop you’ll be taught how to make your very own mini zine that will be all about how you’re taking care of yourself in this pandemic. A quaran-zine, if you will. Think of it as a little journal of some things that have brought you joy, made you think, or helped you through this strange time.
Show up with some paper (preferably 8.5×11), a pencil or pen, and scissors if you have them (we can work around that if you don’t). This workshop is designed for people of all ages who enjoy writing and/or drawing. Families are definitely welcome!

About the Instructor
Janelle Hutchinson is a designer, illustrator, photographer, and zine enthusiast living in Durham. She is currently the Lead Designer and Photographer for Duke University Libraries. She grew up in the Sunshine State and graduated from Florida State University with a BA in Advertising and Studio Art. Her design experience ranges in work for non-profits, small businesses, and a few universities. She’s photographed local bands in Durham and has been a volunteer photographer at the Quidditch World Cup three times (a very real and fun event!). Pre-pandemic, she loved biking to the movies and scouring thrift stores. Present day, she loves making zines and sending mail to faraway pals. Creating something thoughtful or fun with her hands has always been a therapeutic outlet for her and she hopes this class will do the same for you!
