About the Workshop
This class will provide an introduction to computer aided drafting (CAD). Students will learn core concepts of 3D design including sketching, constraints, parametric concepts, extrusion, how to add basic 3D structures such as chamfers and fillets, and how to export your work for 3D printing. We will also discuss various softwares popular in different industries. Skills learned in this class will be very portable to other design platforms. Students will leave having completed a mold that can be used in our mold make course.
Attendees should be timely in their arrival. Late arrivals will have a difficult time catching up.
About the Instructor
Chip founded and currently manages the CoLab Studios. Outside of his role as a technology operationalist, he maintains a passion for students and research. He has been teaching 3D modeling and media applications for fifteen years as well as consulting for numerous entities on engineering level media project. Chip holds an MSEd and has maintained a strong interest in adapting traditional teaching theory to current technological shifts. He spent his youth in the machine shop of his family’s business that led to a lifelong passion for building. To this day, you’ll never find him far from a hammer and saw.
About the Location
The TEC (Technology Engagement Center) Classroom is in the Telcom Building. To get there, just walk down the stairs from Perkins/Bostock like you’re heading towards CIEMAS. When you get to the road halfway down, make a right and Telcom is the building ahead of you to the left. The Technology Engagement Center is the first floor, so just enter in the front of the building.
