About the Workshop

Heels is a mixed level class that is designed to explore self through Heels choreography. This class will cover Heel’s fundamentals and technique in addition to choreography. Heels are encouraged but not required, knee pads are recommended.

 

DISCLAIMER: This program involves physical exertion and movement through and across space, so before beginning ensure you have adequate clear, safe space free of obstacles to move and are wearing appropriate footwear for the floor surface. If more than one person will be participating, ensure adequate space to avoid contact with other participants. It is your responsibility to use personal judgment concerning the degree of your participation in the activities, and to determine that you are in proper physical condition to participate in such activities.

About the Instructor

Ife Presswood, Duke MFA in Dance student and instructor for "Ballet for All Bodies."

Ife Michelle is a native of Charlotte, NC whose dance training started at age 7 at the North Carolina Performing Arts Academy and continued through college in the dance programs of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Fayetteville State University. She is a graduate of Duke’s MFA program.

Ife has danced with multiple companies including KOFFEE Modern Dance Company, DialeKt Pre-Professional Dance Company, SHAE Movement African Arts and 4Thirty-Two Hip-Hop Company, where she also served as a choreographer. She currently runs her own dance company, Ife Michelle Dance, which aims to expand the representation of body types and identities in the professional dance world.

Can I take a bus to the Rubenstein Arts Center?

Yes! The Rubenstein Arts Center is located between East and West campus, off of bus routes (C1, C2 & CSW) that run along Campus Drive.

About Duke Arts Create

Duke Arts Create is a series of free, hands-on arts workshops designed to help all Duke students, including graduate and professional students (including Duke Health), as well as Duke faculty and staff develop a variety of creative skills in the visual arts, dance and movement, creative writing and more. Workshops are open to all skill levels and backgrounds. Most workshops are held in the Duke Arts Annex, the Rubenstein Arts Center or the Duke Arts Office 2101 and are typically held weeknights from 6-8 p.m.
