Throwing on the Wheel

Partnership with Duke Arts Create & DuWell

Taught by Amber Mooers

About the Workshop

Learn how to throw pottery on the wheel! In this introductory class, you will learn the basics of centering, throwing, and trimming pots. Note that this class is focused on learning throwing techniques rather than creating a finished product, and is a requirement to use the Arts Annex pottery wheels during open studio hours.

PLEASE NOTE: This will be a 3-hour workshop that begins at 5pm. Space is limited to only 12 participants. Please only enroll if you are sure you can attend. If you must cancel, please do so well in advance so another person can take your place. We anticipate the waitlist for this workshop will exceed 100 people.

About the Instructor

Amber graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a degree in 3D fine Arts. She specialized in ceramics, but her second love is fiber arts. She currently works out of her home studio, as well as with some local artists sharing resources. Amber primarily works in handbuilding for both her ceramic sculpture and functional ware, and she uses underglazes to color her pieces. For her fiber art, Amber works mostly in wool, felting and dyeing the material into sculptural, often mixed-media forms.
