Invitation for Participation

Open to all Duke Units & Departments

The We The People steering committee invites all Duke units to share information about current or planned programming, coursework, or projects that align with the initiative’s themes. We also welcome proposals for new work. Early submissions will help us shape the full initiative and allow us to provide timely support with We The People branding, coordination, and promotion. A separate invitation will be sent to community partners for participation, but we encourage Duke units in existing partnerships to share information at this time. We look forward to highlighting a wide range of perspectives from across Duke and our surrounding communities.

We welcome information about:

• Existing projects, courses, or events already planned for 2026 and Spring 2027

• New or emerging ideas inspired by the initiative

• Cross-unit collaborations or community partnerships

• Student learning and engagement related to We The People themes

• Public-facing programs, scholarly work, creative projects, or student-centered initiatives

We The People Guiding Themes:

• Civic life and democratic participation

• History, identity, and belonging

• Community voices and lived experience

• Intersections of art, research, and public dialogue

• Future-oriented visions of society, community, or democracy

Please Note:

This invitation does not include funding, but participating projects will benefit from shared branding, promotion, and coordination across campus channels.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis through Fall 2026. Submit by April 1, 2026 to maximize amplification and partnership opportunities. You will receive an email with next steps within two weeks of submission.

Community partners and student groups will be able to submit projects through a separate submission form, which is currently in development. For further questions, please contact arts@duke.edu.
