Pik Kei Wong is a freelance dance creator based in Glasgow since 2023. She has 15 years of experience teaching contemporary dance. She has worked with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, teaching creative and movement workshops to different faculties such as Architecture, Music, Lighting Design and Gender Studies. She also teaches Tai Chi and butoh and 48 Edo Orian Yoga to dance students, professionals and non-dancers in many different parts of the world.
As a performer, Pik Kei’s practice is built on strong technical training, particularly in butoh and Tai Chi. She applies mindfulness practices to explore her work beyond physical movements. She believes in the potentially transformational effects that the energy of her work could have on the audience. She has work with established artists including Xavier Le Roy and Christian Rizzo and has been invited to major dance festivals around the world.
Bird Watching, her solo work which will have a presentation as part of Duke Arts Presents season on October 25 & 26. explores gender and desire through challenging stereotypical perspectives. The work received an outstanding award in 2018 in Hong Kong and 5 stars (Fringebiscuit) at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe (Summerhall).
