Amy Sawyers-Williams Campus Engagement Manager

Amy Sawyers-Williams is an applied theatre artist and arts engagement professional with over 15 years of experience in arts leadership. A Chicago native, she fell in love with art volunteering at Steppenwolf and Second City before earning her degree at UW-Madison, where she also served as program advisor for the Wisconsin Union Music & Performance Committee.

She holds a master’s in applied theatre from CUNY, specializing in devising, Theatre of the Oppressed, Theatre-In-Education, and teaching artistry in NYC schools. In 2017, she founded See Saw Projects, an applied theatre company based in Raleigh, NC. During the pandemic, she was an artist-in-residence with TimeSlips and Dementia Inclusive Durham, and she continues her work in partnership with Dr. Sarah Wilbur’s Artist in Healthcare course at Duke.

Before joining Duke Arts in 2025, Amy managed arts outreach and engagement at NC State University, where she significantly expanded the Curricular Connections program, integrating the arts into academic disciplines.

An experienced improv comedian, she performs at Comedy Worx with Capital City Culture Club. She brings 16 years of improv training and teaching experience to her work in theatre and arts engagement.
