Instead of documenting Hillsborough, Susie Post-Rust and her Center for Documentary Studies students began documenting their experience of the current pandemic, questioning what it means to “Stay At Home.”

CDS Photo Class Responds to Online Shift

From the Center for Documentary Studies: Undergraduates in CDS instructor Susie Post-Rust’s documentary photography class, “Small Town USA,” have documented Hillsborough, NC, for the past fourteen years. Students in this year’s class were well into their projects when Duke students were asked not to come back to campus after spring break. “The class pivoted,” Post-Rust said. Instead of documenting Hillsborough, Susie and her students began documenting their experience of the current pandemic, questioning what it means to “Stay At Home.” To follow them on their collective weekly journey, visit their class blog here.
