The Duke Arts Studio program from Duke Arts gives Duke undergraduate students the chance to expand on a creative project with guidance from a professional artist. Mentors are either Duke alums or local professional artists. Along with one-on-one mentorship, students join cohort gatherings and take part in guest artist talks and workshops.
Students in the previous cohort shared how meaningful the experience has been:
“The most meaningful part about Duke Arts Studio is being able to connect with such an incredible mentor. My mentor really helped drive my creative practice into something new.”
Kayla Lihardo, ’25
“I would say the biggest part of the program that influenced me was having my mentor, I haven’t had one in that way before, and it was really meaningful to me to always have someone in my corner, and always support me every step of the way.“
Lauren Valle, ’25

“Being a part of this incredible cohort of fellow artists who all have a different medium within their projects is so inspiring and gives me a space also to practice my artistic self.”
Kulsoom Rizavi, ’25
Past projects have included experimental movement, music-making, screenplay writing, documentary work, novel writing, and photography.
