Austin-based songwriter Zach Person certainly knows how to wield an axe. Joined onstage only by drummer Jake Wyble, Person’s guitar alone packs more power than most four-piece bands can manage. Summoning the rollicking blues-rock of The Black Keys and the scorched psychedelia of Funkadelic in equal measure, Person’s sound sits squarely in the tradition of American roots music. He puts his own spin on this heritage, from his raucous interpretation of Elvis Presley’s “All Shook Up”to the original track “Crossroads,” an homage to blues legend Robert Johnson. Person provides a refreshingly modern take on a timeless rock and roll formula.
