Yoga and creative rest

Taught by em liptow

Community Workshop: Open to all – no Duke affiliation required!

Rest is an important part of being human. Rest helps our bodies recover from physical activity, reduces stress and anxiety, and supports a healthy immune system. Rest also supports our creativity by giving our minds space to wander and dream.
For many people, it’s difficult to find time to rest—especially students, teachers, folks with demanding workloads, and those with family responsibilities. And even when we do carve out a moment to rest, it can be challenging to relax, turn the brain off, and let ourselves be in the present moment.
In this workshop, we’ll practice creative ways to rest well together. Engaging with yoga, meditation, and deep rest practices, we will explore different strategies for relaxation. Each of us have different needs when it comes to rest, so this workshop is designed to offer multiply ways to settle into the present moment. Come ready to get cozy— napping is welcome!

Our time will include:

  • Simple yoga practices to move energy through our bodies and prepare for rest
  • Connecting with our senses—sight, hearing, tactile, taste, and smell— to ground our body, mind, spirit and nervous system in the present moment
  • Deep rest practices rooted in restorative yoga

This workshop will be focused on movement and stillness, with some space for discussion and light refreshments.

No experience required. Participants of all abilities are welcome. Please email emily.liptow@duke.edu with any questions.
