Jewish Life at Duke is thrilled to invite you to visit our Portrait Identity Project gallery. The exhibit will be on display at the Freeman Center for Jewish Life Sanctuary from April 23 through May 30, in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month.
About the Portrait Identity Project:
This social documentary project pairs personal stories with professional portraits, bringing our community together to look, listen, and learn from students as they self-reflect on the intersection of their identities and how their perception of being Jewish has evolved. This exhibit celebrates the many ways to be Jewish, challenges stereotypes, and encourages viewers to reconsider what it looks like to be a young Jewish adult today.
Visit:
Duke students can access the Freeman Center daily with their DukeID. Guests and the general public are welcome to visit during office hours, Monday through Friday 9:30am-5pm, April 23 through May 30.
About Jewish Life at Duke:
Jewish Life at Duke is the hub for all things Jewish on Duke’s campus. An accredited Hillel as well as a department within Duke University’s Division of Student Affairs, Jewish Life at Duke is guided by a mission to empower Jewish students to learn and grow intellectually and spiritually; to inspire and nurture personal paths to Jewish identity; and to cultivate community and friendship.
Comprising the Freeman Center for Jewish Life and the Rubenstein-Silvers Hillel, JLD takes a pluralistic approach to Judaism to ensure that all Jewish students, regardless of affiliation, are welcome and included.
Jewish Life at Duke is one of the six identity and cultural and centers within Duke’s Division of Student Affairs, alongside the Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity, the Center for Multicultural Affairs, the Center for Muslim Life, the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture, and the Women’s Center.
