Local country-rockers Mount Moriah recently celebrated their second Merge Records release, the righteous and defiant How to Dance. Pitchfork wrote of the album that frontwoman Heather McEntire “bends your ear in her animated twang, as expressive as Dolly Parton’s but as observant as Patterson Hood’s.” Mount Moriah is a quintessential North Carolina band, dotting their songs with the names of their native state’s out-of-the-way places. Blending heavy rock guitars with soaring country vocals, their music tells personal stories of a spiritual journey through the changing South.
