Artists-in-Residence: Rude Mechs

Artists-in-Residence Event: Rude Mechs

• Evolution & Theater: Exploring the Science in the Rude Mechs’ Now Now Oh Now •
Presented by Duke Performances, internationally celebrated Austin, Texas theater collective Rude Mechs make their Durham debut with Now Now Oh Now, an immersive theatrical experience that explores the nature of beauty, evolution, choice, and chance. Leading an intimate audience of only 30 people through a two-part cabinet of wonders in Duke’s Sheafer Lab Theater, Rude Mechs combine serious scientific content with the nerdy pleasures of interactive gaming and the undeniable satisfaction of Murder Mystery Theatre. The Austin Chronicle writes, “Now Now Oh Now is a delightful way to have your mind blown.”

Rude Mechs have been delighting audiences with what they describe as a “genre-defying cocktail of big ideas, cheap laughs, and dizzying spectacle” for seventeen years.

Artists in residence at Duke for ten days, the Rude Mechs take part in a discussion on evolution and theater, and the role of beauty and aesthetics in their new play Now Now Oh Now.
