With two mainstage productions and several student-directed productions each year, Theater Studies offers many opportunities to engage in theatrical performance and scholarship. In fall 2008, Theater Studies collaborated with Hoof ‘n’ Horn, Duke’s student musical ensemble, to present Sweeney Todd, a production that attracted over 4000 audience members. Recent collaborations with Duke Performances led to residencies by the Classical Theater of Harlem and master puppeteer Basil Twist.

Students participating in the popular Movie Making Marathon produce full length films based on scripts written in screenwriting courses. Numerous student groups enrich theater life at Duke, such as the Duke Players, Wendell Theater Group, Duke University Improv, Karamu Drama Group, and Urgent Theater. Students interested in the arts may wish to join the Arts Theme House.
