Special Duke Arts Weekend Event: Through the Night
Through the Night, an 80 minute, one-man play by Def Jam poet and Obie Award-winning actor and playwright Daniel Beaty, explores black stereotypes through the eyes of six black males: a brilliant ten-year-old boy who is determined to help his neighbors and nearly dies in the process; the ten-year-old's father who struggles to keep his neighborhood health food store open; a recently released drug dealer with HIV/AIDS; a gay forty-year-old marketing executive; a priest and father who battles diabetes and food addiction; an inner-city youth once written off by teachers, now college-bound, torn between the relationship with his girlfriend and the promise of a different future. It's current. It's real. It's hopeful. Through the Night is directed by the acclaimed playwright/performer and Duke University Theater Studies Department alum Charles Randolph-Wright. Q&A and reception will follow. (Not appropriate for children under 12 years. Strong Language.)
